Found: Wafers Packed With Heroin At FLL

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Customs officials discovered something not belonging in a bag of wafers in South Florida over the weekend.

Customs and Border Protection officials said a traveler was trying to take in heroin in a bag of Nestle Cocosette wafers.

The traveler was coming in through Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Saturday.

Officers said they found three pounds of the illicit contraband in the wafer packets.

It is unclear if and how many people were arrested in this case.

According to a report released by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, heroin use, while at low levels were escalating in Broward and Miami-Dade County between 2012 and 2013.
