5 people hospitalized after overnight shooting in Fort Lauderdale, police searching for suspect
Five people were hospitalized after an overnight shooting in Fort Lauderdale on early Sunday, police said.
Around 2 a.m., Fort Lauderdale Police responded to the area of 300 SW 2nd St. following a reported shooting. Upon arrival, officers found "several adult victims," prompting them to secure the scene and apply immediate tactical aid, Fort Lauderdale Police told CBS News Miami.
CBS News Miami reported that police were seen sweeping the area with K9 units around Second Street when the shooting happened.
Five people were taken to the hospital by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue; however, police did not have information regarding the condition of the individuals at this time.
Detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no current threat to the general public, Fort Lauderdale Police said.
Fort Lauderdale Police said they are searching for a suspect as their detectives investigate the shooting.
Residents are concerned about nightlife safety as police search for the shooter
CBS News Miami spoke to one man who often frequents this area.
"Very concerning for the upcoming events for New Year's Eve," he said.
The man, who wished not to have his face shown, told CBS News Miami it feels less safe down here the later it gets.
"It's gotten very concerning at night. Definitely not a place you want to bring your family and kids," he said.
The man told CBS News Miami that he's hoping police can beef up their presence as we get closer to New Year's Eve.
"Hope there's a lot more police presence out here and some positive changes in the area," the man said.
