Fort Lauderdale Father Shames Social Media 'Shamers'

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – We've seen parents using social media to shame their children for bad behavior but one father is now "shaming the shamers."
This Fort Lauderdale father's video has gone viral with millions of views in just one day.
At the beginning of the video, it appears Wayan Greshem is going to shave his son Isaiah's head as punishment and post it on social media. But then there's a twist.
"Oh give me a hug, there is no way I would embarrass my son like that," said Wayan.
The Greshem's said they can't believe all the attention this video has gotten.
"Totally unexpected but happy for the dialogue that's taken place," said Wayan.
"It's cool. It's cool," said Isaiah.
What's not cool, Wayan said, are shaming videos online where children were actually shamed by their parents. It was posted on social media for the world to see.
Wayan, who works with kids as the magnet coordinator at Lauderhill 6-12, said the shaming videos bothered him terribly.
"Our kids should not be humiliated. We should leave them with self-worth. Discipline is important but not in the public eye," said Wayan.
The head of child psychiatry at Joe DiMaggios Children's Hospital, Dr. Daniel Bober said shaming your children online is detrimental.
"I think it's a form of child abuse. It's an assault on self-esteem..erodes bonds of trust and I think it's the wrong way to go," said Bober.

With this video, the Greshem's are just happy their positive message resonated with so many.
"I do consider myself a servant and if this is allowing people to create dialogue and say stop or let's go another route, I think I've done my job," said Wayan.
Wayan put his video out there because he believes in the message but also because it's a scene he was considering putting in a play that he's written. It's called 'On Deaf Ears' and it's going to be playing Father's Day weekend.
