Former Peruvian President To Give Lecture At FIU

MIAMI (CBSMiami)-- Former Peruvian President Alan Garcia is set to give a lecture at Florida International University on Monday.

The event hosted by FIU's  Latin American and Caribbean Center is free and open to the public.

Garcia's lecture will cover  current economic and political trends in the hemisphere and issues such as the recent decision by the International Court of Justice at The Hague redefining the Peru-Chile maritime boundary.

After the lecture, Garcia will take questions from the audience on challenges facing the region; the trials of governance and security; and how these impact the region's current investment climate.

Garcia is the leader of the Peruvian Apra Party and served his first presidential term from 1985-1990, and his second term from 2006-2011.

The lecture, which will take place at FIU's Modesto Madique Campus, starts at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m.
