Former Marlins Pitcher Charged With DUI, Child Abuse

CUTLER BAY (CBSMiami) -- Former Florida Marlins pitcher Hansel Izquierdo was arrested Thursday on several charges including driver under the influence and child abuse.
Police said Izquierdo was first observed driving into an oncoming lane to avoid a road detour. He was then seen swerving along the road, according to the arrest report, near Old Cutler Road and Southwest 92nd Avenue.
Once pulled over, Izquierdo allegedly switched seats with a female passenger and denied ever being behind the wheel. Three young children were also in the car, with one of them laying on the laps of the two others, not restrained with a seat belt.
Izquierdo's breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were glassy and his speech slurred, the arresting officer said, and he was placed into police custody.
Izquierdo had a brief career with the Florida Marlins. He was drafted by Florida in the 7th round in 1995 and played one season with the Marlins going 2-0 with a 4.55 ERA. His career ended in 2005, last playing for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
