Former Canes Attend Cystic Fibrosis Kickball Fundraiser

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Several former Miami Hurricane players came together for a kickball tournament on Sunday aimed at raising cystic fibrosis awareness.

Dubbed "Kick CF with Bryant McKinnie & Friends," the family oriented event was held at Coral Park Senior High School, located at  8865 SW 16th St.

Teams consisted of 8-12 players comprised of adults and children all battling for their chance to battle the celebrities in the championship match.

McKinnie was joined by Najea Davenport, D.J. Williams, Damien Berry, David Clowney, Gerard Daphnis and former Canes baseball player Jose Trujillo.

Around $10,000 were raised with all the proceeds going to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

"You know we're getting close. We now have medication that are controls 15 percent of people with CF. This summer the FDA is expected to approve medication that will control for up to 50 percent," said Jerry Socherman who is with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
