Charlie Howden is a sailor and paddler.

Back in 2012, the Brit, who now calls Fort Lauderdale home, came up with an innovative way to raise money for cancer research.

His plan was for a "stand-up-paddle" down the 400-mile Pacific coast of Costa Rica.

Then out of nowhere, Charlie himself was diagnosed with cancer, and suddenly he was raising money for his disease.
