MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz along with a known face in the gun control debate are holding various events in South Florida to continue the conversation.

Former U.S. Rep. Gaby Giffords, a victim of gun violence, along with Wasserman Shultz will hold a gun safety meeting in Fort Lauderdale on Thursday. The event will be held at the Fort Lauderdale Firefighters Union Hall starting at 5 p.m.

The two will then head to Cooper City for a community meeting to discuss what they call common sense gun violence legislation. The meeting will be held at Temple Beth Emet starting at 7 p.m.

The meeting comes after the United States saw the largest mass shooting in America back in June when a man opened fire at an Orlando nightclub killing 49 people.
