Fmr. Miami Cop Accused Of Accepting Bribes

MIAMI (CBSMiami) --  A former city of Miami Police officer is facing charges, accused of accepting bribes.

Julio Ruiz, appeared before a federal judge on Monday.

He is accused of accepting bribe payments between April 26th and June 12, 2013. In total, he received $1,800 cash plus a cellphone.

Authorities said, in exchange for the payments, Ruiz would provide access to information regarding traffic accidents within the jurisdiction of the City of Miami Police Department.

Ruiz is charged with three counts of affecting commerce by extortion under color of official right.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a maximum $250,000 fine and supervised released of up to three years.
