Fmr. Homestead Mayor Pleads Guilty To Misdemeanor Charges

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Former Homestead Mayor Steven Bateman plead guilty to misdemeanor charges on Friday.
Bateman plead guilty to two out of ten misdemeanor charges which includes misappropriation of campaign expenditures. As part of his plea, he will serve 18 months probation.
The former mayor has already been sentenced to 22 month in state prison in connection to a public corruption case.
A judge sentenced him in December 2014 but allowed him to be out on bond pending his appeal.
If he loses his appeal , Bateman will likely not begin his sentence for another year.
On September 22nd, a jury convicted Bateman on two felony counts of illegal compensation and a misdemeanor count of illegal lobbying.
The charges against Bateman came after a CBS4 News Investigation by Jim Defede showed Bateman was on the payroll of Community Health of South Florida but did not disclose it.
