TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — Two Florida prison guards are facing federal charges, accused of assaulting an inmate.

The U.S. Attorney's Office in Tallahassee reports that 40-year-old William J. Ray and 43-year-old Corry B. Fletcher have been charged with violating the civil rights of an inmate at the Franklin Correctional Institution.

An indictment that was unsealed Wednesday states that Ray and Fletcher physically assaulted an inmate without justification in July 2014, causing the inmate bodily injury. Authorities say Fletcher also obstructed justice in April by intentionally misleading FBI and Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents through false statements.

Ray and Fletcher were arrested Wednesday morning and arraigned in federal court. It wasn't immediately known if either man had an attorney.
