Florida Int'l Tops Wright State 61-59 In OT

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Dennis Mavin had 24 points — including a layup with 3 seconds left in regulation to force overtime — and Florida International topped Wright State 61-59 in OT in the Spartanburg Marriott Upstate Classic on Friday.

Mavin had a pair of free throws and FIU was 7 of 8 from the line in OT.

Trailing by nine at intermission, Wright State (3-3) scored the first seven points of the second half, including Chrishawn Hopkins' 3-pointer, and it was tip-and-tuck the rest of the way, though the Raiders didn't have a lead until 5:46 on another Hopkins trey.

Florida International (4-2) used a 13-2 run midway through the first half to turn a 4-point game into a 31-22 lead at intermission as both teams struggled to get their offense going.

JT Yoho led Wright State with 16 points and 9 boards. Hopkins finished with 13 and Joe Thomasson added 11.
