Florida House Sets 2016 Presidential Primary Date

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) —  The Florida House passed a bill Wednesday, setting the state's presidential primary date for 2016.

Under  the bill, the primary election will be held March 15, 2016.

The measure passed unanimously. It means Florida will comply with national party rules — which it broke the past two presidential elections when lawmakers decided Florida should have an early primary.

It would also mean the Republican that carries Florida would win all the state's delegates instead of delegates being awarded proportionally.

And that could give a big boost to former Gov. Jeb Bush or Sen. Marco Rubio should they decide to seek the Republican nomination.

The Senate is also considering the March 15th date in legislation still moving through committees.
