TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — The appointment of a Florida health official in Governor Rick Scott's administration is in limbo.

A Florida Senate panel decided on Tuesday to postpone a vote on Department of Health Secretary John Armstrong.

The delay came after Armstrong sidestepped several questions on whether he supported the Senate proposal to extend health care coverage to 800,000 Floridians. Gov. Rick Scott on Monday said he opposed the proposal, which is also opposed by the Florida House.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Galvano pushed to postpone the vote. He said that senators were frustrated that Armstrong refused to answer whether expanding health care coverage would help improve the health of residents.

Galvano said Armstrong will be given time to "reflect" on his answers. The Senate may reconsider Armstrong's appointment next week.
