MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A South Florida family is asking for the community's help to keep a roof over the head of their son, diagnosed with a debilitating disease.

Their son, 6-year old Bono was diagnosed with Systemic Onset Polyarticular Idiopathic Arthritis three years ago.

Due to the disease he has had almost 100 transfusions, multiple surgeries and countless health related traumas, according to his mother.

She lost her job due to the extensive care required to treat his disease.

She was also forced to exhaust her 401K and unemployment options but three years later, his mother said they were on a path to get them back on their feet.

But they later found out their home had been put up for public auction on January 9th meaning their new challenge would be to not become homeless.

In an effort to raise the $13,000 needed to keep their home, a car wash was held Tuesday afternoon to raise the cash.
