A dark-colored pick-up truck hit the back of a white van while both vehicles were heading East. That prompted the rollover crash.

The impact of the rollover ejected several people in the white van which was carrying 15 people.

One person, a male, died in the crash. He is believed to be a teen.

A 45-year-old female was pinned under the van and was extricated by passersby who used a floor-jack.

A total of twelve people, both adults and pediatrics, were rushed to the hospital. The majority of the patients were ground transported to Cleveland Clinic in Broward County. Four others were treated at the scene.

Fire rescue units from multiple agencies from three counties responded to the scene.

Traffic in the area was severely affected with all lanes on Alligator Alley closed most of the night. The eastbound lane opened just before 10 p.m. At last check,  the westbound lanes were still closed.

As an alternate route, drivers can take US-41 (Tamiami Trail).
