FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- There were more than 205 flight delays -- both arrivals and departures -- at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Tuesday.

An airport spokesperson said weather and volume of flights were the main culprits.

Dozens of delays were also reported at Miami International Airport.

With the northeast bracing for a snowstorm on Wednesday, that could bring additional delays and make for a travel nightmare for some of the more than 46 million people expected to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Yellow delay banners lit up the flight boards at FLL as passengers waited in lines at numerous terminals trying.

"It's a standstill," said Shari Scalone.

Some travelers hoped to beat the rush out of town to chilly destinations for Thanksgiving by flying on Tuesday but Stacy Sankey's flight was delayed at least three hours.

"We were supposed to fly out tomorrow but we decided to change it before the big rush," Sankey said. "Didn't work out. We might be flying out tomorrow anyway."

Gus and Kelli Cois are set to take their almost 2-year-old and their infant to visit family in the northeast. They still don't know why their flight was delayed by more than two hours.

"Quite frustrating," said Gus. "Especially when there's no answer as to why we're going to be delayed."

His wife Kelli is relying on patience.

"You just kind of wing it," she said. "Take it one moment at a time."

But on this occasion it's the destination that matters, not the journey or the wait.

"Just to see family and have a good Thanksgiving dinner. I think it's worth it," said Scalone.
