Fishermen Rescued Off Coast Of Puerto Rico

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (CBSMiami) — The Coast Guard and Puerto Rico Police reported Friday morning that two fishermen who were missing  off the coast of the island have been located.

Thursday night, two other fishermen were rescued after the boat they were in capsized north of Vega Baja, Puerto Rico.

The four people reportedly departed on a fishing trip Thursday morning from Cerro Gordo Beach, but their vessel capsized at approximately 12 p.m.

All four were reportedly wearing life jackets when they went into the water.

Coast Guard in San Juan received a report Thursday night from Ricardo Román, a citizen in the area who reported seeing from shore a red flare out at sea.

The crew of the Coast Guard helicopter located a first fisherman after initially sighting a beam of light from a flashlight that was coming from the water.

Shortly thereafter, the Coast Guard helicopter crew located a second fisherman two nautical miles south from the first fisherman's position.

The two fisherman were transferred from the Puerto Rico Police marine unit to a Good Samaritan vessel and taken to Cerro Gordo Beach in Vega Alta for medical treatment.

The remaining two fishermen who were missing were rescued by a Good Samaritan Friday morning.
