MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A horse found itself in desperate need of help Sunday after ending up in a canal without an escape plan.

It happened near S.W. 167th Avenue and 195th Street.

The horse's owner called authorities when it suddenly ran away.

Rescuers said the horse was agitated and difficult to handle until they got in the water themselves and calmed it down. They were able to strap a harness to the horse before laying down a big blue tarp along the canal embankment, making the rescue easier.

Video courtesy of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue showed seven or eight people were needed to pull the animal out.

It got back on its feet once out of the water and the horse was said to be doing just fine.
