Firefighters Battled Raging Fire At Tire Shop In Hallandale Beach

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Firefighters from Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue and Hollywood Fire Rescue battled a raging fire at a tire shop in Hallandale Beach.

The broke out about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday at J & J Discount Tire at 621 Pembroke Road.

Arriving firefighters found heavy smoke and flames.

"Thick, black smoke. You couldn't see nothing else but the smoke," said Earl Edwards who works across the street.

The fire soon spread to a house next door. Additional fire crews were called to the scene.

"All I saw was smoke. It was so thick, once it started you couldn't see through the street," said Edwards.

As they were battling the fires, a power line fell between the building, creating some safety concerns. FPL was called and they cut power in the area which affected more than a thousand customers. Power was restored to all by 11:45 p.m.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue said both fires were out around 1 a.m. Firefighters returned Thursday morning to douse smoldering hot spots.

No injuries were reported.

Both the tire shop and the home are a total loss. Five people, including a child, who lived in the home are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
