MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Miami man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly ran over and killed a friend with his truck.

It happened Saturday, May 28th, around 7:30 p.m. at the Riverpark Trailer Court at 22nd Street and NW 27th Avenue.

Daniel Arias, 38, and his friend were fighting over a cell phone when he hit him on the head with metal object, according to his arrest report.

Witnesses said Arias then got in his truck and drove off. He reportedly returned a short time later and ran down his friend who tried to hide behind a metal pole.

"He wasn't breathing and all of a sudden he took a big breath and I told him, 'Listen, he's breathing, come fast'," said William Alguino. "There was blood all over the place and he was in bad shape and I knew he was pretty much gone."

Arias tried to drive off but couldn't because the pole was impaled in the underside of his truck. When he tried to take off on foot, several witnesses detained him until police arrived.

Arias is charged with first degree murder and leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality.
