FHP Trooper, Driver Taken To Hospital After I-95 Crash Near SR 84

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A Florida Highway Patrol trooper and another driver were taken to Broward Health Medical Center after being involved in a crash on I-95 early Thursday morning.

The FHP said the trooper collided with a Tesla around 5 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Griffin Road.

Multiple lanes were blocked during the morning commute, snarling traffic for more than six hours. At one point, traffic was backed up to Pembroke Road, nearly eight miles away.

Drivers were urged to avoid the area and use US 411 or the Turnpike as an alternate.

"I tried to go on Federal Highway, take Federal Highway north but it's still bumper to bumper for miles. I don't know how the rest is, but this is the time to sit back, relax, enjoy your coffee, music," said Ash Bhatti who was stuck in traffic.

The trooper and the Tesla driver were both treated for non-life threatening injuries and released from the hospital.
