FDA Warns Whole Foods Over Unsanitary Conditions

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The FDA issued a warning letter to Whole Foods over unsanitary conditions in a Massachusetts kitchen.
The administration warned the market that food prepared there "may have been contaminated with filth."
They said they found "serious violations" at a food preparation facility during inspections back in February. They also reportedly found food in areas where "condensate" was leaking from the ceiling, a doorway and fan.
Officials said a worker also sprayed ammonium-based sanitizer on "an open colander of salad leafy greens."
Other violations mentioned include failure to sanitize food prep surfaces and sinks without hand-washing.
In a letter in March, Whole Foods responded saying it took the concerns seriously and would do what was needed to correct the issues.
Despite their response, the FDA said they did not consider Whole Foods' response acceptable because the company did not hand over photos or other documentation to show they are making repairs and improvements.
