FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — A U.S. Army sergeant was arrested in South Florida after showing up for what he thought was a sexual encounter with underage girls, the FBI said.

The SunSentinel reports 26-year-old Alexis Kirk Torres was communicating with an undercover law enforcement officer and Monday's meeting in a parking lot was a sting. Torres brought along candy, cash, condoms and lubricant.

The newspaper reports Torres replied to an ad in January that is generally associated with people seeking children for sexual purposes.

Agents secretly recorded Torres discussing the arrangements Monday.

Torres appeared briefly in a Fort Lauderdale courtroom Tuesday and will remain in jail until a hearing next week when a judge will consider bond. He agreed to pay $8,000 toward the cost of an assistant federal public defender.
