DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A fatal car accident shut down parts of I-75 early Sunday morning.

The crash took place at approximately 5:30 a.m.

A car that authorities say may have been speeding came up behind a maroon SUV and clipped it.

That caused the car to travel down an embankment on the side of the highway and flip over.

The car then caught fire. The driver was unable to escape the vehicle and died on the scene.

This all happened in the southbound lanes of I-75 just south of Griffin Road.

The driver of the SUV did not sustain any major injuries.

While roadways were slick due to rainy weather, authorities on scene say speed definitely played a factor.
