MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Thursday's Miami Corporate Run will be a memorable and emotional run for the family of the late co-race director John "Hans" Huseby.

It's the first run without the patriarch of the family.

"This is hard. But we have to do it for Hans," said Hans Wife Laurie Huseby.

Last November at the age of 64, Hans died in his sleep, of a heart attack.

"It's always been a big deal for him to be here...for him not to be here is a big deal," said his son J.P.

With the help of a daughter and three sons, the family has pulled together for the event.

The Huseby's are well known among the running community. They've owned the FootWorks store in South Miami since the mid 1970s.

The first corporate run race was in 1985 with 1,300 participants and the Husebys were there.

"It's a race they started many years ago with 1,300 people. Now more than 27,000 and over 450 tents are participating. It's a huge undertaking."

The race is ending with a bang this year. The way Hans would have wanted it.

"One thing he always wanted was fireworks. Tonight, we are going to have fireworks," said Laurie.

Shortly after the 8:30 p.m. awards ceremony, the 10-minute fireworks display will light up the sky in Biscayne Bay in honor of Hans.
