Falling Gas Prices Fueling Delight For Drivers

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Have you filled up your gas tank lately? You've probably noticed that prices at the pump are falling and that's great news for your budget.
At a couple of gas stations in Broward and Miami-Dade, the prices for regular unleaded dipped below $3.
As of Oct. 21st, gas prices across the nation and statewide have been slipping.

The average price for regular unleaded in Miami is $3.16, according to AAA Motor Club. One week ago, it was $3.25 and a month ago, it was $3.35.
In Fort Lauderdale, the average price for regular unleaded is $3.21. One week ago, it was $3.29 and a month ago it was $3.35.
"I'm in a good mood today actually because I got freaked out when I saw the gas prices. I might as well fill up now because you never know how long it's going to be," said Victor Morales.
Luigi Gomez was filling up at a gas station on Miramar Parkway and 62nd Avenue where unleaded regular was $2.89 a gallon.
"It's great especially when you have to go out all day, drive around all day," said Gomez. "It adds up, definitely with the truck. I drive almost 80, 90 miles a day."
AAA predicts that the statewide average will be less than $3 by next month — the first time that's happened since late December 2010.
So what will drivers do with the savings?
"I like the extra cash, keep it in the family. Maybe go out with the family, a little extra cash is always good," said Gomez.
"I might go to the movies," said Morales.
Gas prices are dipping because of soaring worldwide oil production, experts say. In the U.S., output has reached its highest level since 1985. As the supply has increased, the demand has decreased. Typically there aren't as many people traveling this time of year as there are during the summer months. Economists predict the savings could create a ripple effect for the local economy.
