Fall Classes Suspended At School With Machete Death

HOMESTEAD (AP) — Following a vicious machete murder where a South Florida U.S. Department of Labor vocational school student was hacked to death by four others, officials have decided to suspend Fall classes.

A spokesman confirmed Friday that Homestead Job Corps' summer break has been extended until at least Sept. 9, and 17 students who had been staying at the school over the summer have been moved to another Job Corps center.

Miami-Dade police charged four of 17-year-old Jose Amaya Guardado's classmates earlier this month with second-degree murder.

An arrest report says the suspects lured Amaya Guardado to a wooded area near the live-in school for at-risk students in June.

Authorities say that's where Amaya Guardado was hacked to death with a machete. His body was found several days later.
