MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- While a horrific traffic accident may have shattered her bones, Aniyah Watson's spirit is still intact.

"I'm alive and that is so beautiful right now. To be where I am," Aniyah said, a week after she was struck by a car and pinned against a light pole, leaving her with a series of broken bones and fractures.

Speaking to CBS4's Peter D'Oench from her wheelchair outside of Jackson Memorial Hospital, Aniyah vividly remembers what happened on December 6th.

It was 8:00 p.m. at the corner of N.E. 11th Street and 1st Avenue when, police say, a BMW going the wrong way hit another car, jumped the sidewalk and hit Aniyah and her friend.

"I was tying to be a smart pedestrian and do everything right and cross the street properly. And the next thing know, I was stuck beneath a pole," Aniyah recalled. "And then a beautiful person helped me and got me out, away from the car and the pole."

She says it's fortunate she wasn't killed.

"It all happened so quickly. It was pretty bad. Fire rescue was there," she said. "I had multiple fractures and my pelvis was fractured."

What hasn't broken -- her outlook toward the future.

"I am not going to sit here and feel terrible. I am not going to let that happen," she demanded. "If I do that, it would make my recovery so much harder and so much worse."

Witnesses told police the driver, Jermaine Givens, tried to get away but was restrained by two people. He was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries.

"I know he is in good hands and is going to be taken care of by the law," said Aniyah.

She offered him a message.

"Hold your liquor. You shouldn't even be drinking and driving but if you are driving, please hold your liquor."

Aniyah has also chosen to not be angry.

"I'm not going to waste my time doing that. It's taken enough time away from my family. I'm just not going to allow this to do that anymore."

She hopes to continue one of her passions -- dancing.

"I would love to stand right now. I miss standing but I hope to be performing by spring time."

Aniyah plans to go to college in Palm Beach. She says she should be at JMH for another week and may need therapy for a while. But after surviving the accident, she's optimistic about her future.
