Events Across Florida Mark 70th Anniversary Of D-Day

MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Locals across Florida are marking the 70th anniversary of D-Day with various events.

In Miami, consul generals from France, Britain and Canada will join U.S. military officials at a remembrance service at Trinity Episcopal Church.

In Tallahassee, a ceremony is being held at the World War II Memorial outside the Leon County Courthouse.

And in Tampa, World War II veterans are gathering at the Museum of Science and Industry.

D-Day was the largest sea-borne invasion ever mounted. More than 150,000 American, British, Canadian and other Allied veterans risked their lives in the battle to defeat Adolf Hitler.
