England And Ecuador To Play World Cup Warm-Up Match In Miami

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – With the 2014 FIFA World Cup only eight days away, soccer teams from around the globe are making their final preparations before heading to Brazil.

In many cases, those preparations include playing "friendlies" which is when two teams meet for an exhibition game outside of any league or tournament. There is nothing on the line, just an opportunity for the teams to work on different strategies and positioning against clubs of varying talent levels.

One such of those friendlies will be played on Wednesday afternoon at Sun Life Stadium when England's national team faces off against fellow World Cup qualifier Ecuador.  With both teams bound for Brazil, you can expect that there will be little friendliness in this match as each team is looking to head into the World Cup with momentum on its side.

The last time England and Ecuador met was during the 2006 World Cup.  With a birth in the quarterfinals on the line, superstar David Beckham scored a free-kick goal that propelled England past the Ecuadorians.  You can bet that game is fresh on the minds of both clubs heading into Wednesday's match.

England is looking to build on the last game they played on home soil, a dominant 3-0 victory over Peru on Saturday.  As for Ecuador, their most recent outing was also on Saturday though it wasn't nearly as favorable as England's.  Ecuador fell at the hands of Mexico by the score of 3-1.

Wednesday's warm-up match is set to begin at 3pm at Sun Life Stadium.
