BROWARD (CBSMiami) – A small plane landed safely along I-75 after experiencing engine trouble in the air – and a student pilot may have been at the controls.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Cessna 172 landed west of U.S. Highway 27 at mile marker 33 around 5:30 p.m.

A man, who identified himself as the vice president of Wayman American Flight Training,  said the instructor and student were on a training flight when they were forced to make an emergency landing.

"A great, safe landing. The best in a bad situation. I'm very proud of them," he said.

Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene and one lane of traffic was temporarily blocked off.

The student and instructor were seen speaking with an FAA official. The instructor said the scare won't keep him from flying again.

"I want to go tomorrow, too," he said.

The FAA is investigating.
