Elderly Man Killed Days After Hit And Run

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - An elderly man who was sent to the hospital Wednesday night after a driver struck him, and then fled, has died in the hospital.

Paul Louis, 73, was struck and left for dead just around the corner from his home at the 1400 block of NE 145 Street.

Louis died at the hospital Friday night, according Miami-Dade Police Department Traffic Homicide Investigators.

Louis, according to his family, had left his house to go to the store around 8 PM. Police said a white minivan hit Louis as he crossed the street--the driver did not stop.

"I just open the door. I see he's on the floor, he don't say nothing," the victim's wife Marie Nicole Louis said Thursday.

"My son, he tried to help him," Louis.

Louis was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center with life-threatening injuries.

"It is heart wrenching," said Louis' niece Tabitha Luc on Thursday. "But when you see my aunt crying like this, you can't break down and cry, you have to be strong for your family and hope to find answers."

The white minivan was last seen headed south on NE 14th Avenue. Anyone with information can call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
