Earthquake Rumbles Off Coast Of Cuba

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A small earthquake off Cuba was felt in the lower Keys.

The 4.7 magnitude quake, at depth of 6 miles, occurred about 31 miles ENE of Cárdenas, Matanzas, Cuba, according to the USGS National Earthquake Information Center.

The National Earthquake Information Center said the quake was actually an aftershock from a 5.0-magnitude earthquake that rattled the region in January, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald. That earthquake was reportedly 12.4 miles below the earth's surface.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection said no known earthquake has ever had its epicenter beneath Florida, although several have been felt across the state.
