Driver's Commute Comes To Crashing Halt Into Goodwill Store

HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – An elderly woman's Monday morning commute ended abruptly when she crashed into a Hollywood store.

"An explosion this morning and I went, 'Wow, what was that?'" recalled Donna Pagnotta, who lives nearby.

That explosion she heard while insider her home Monday morning was the sound of a driver smashing through the window of a Goodwill Superstore on 6819 Taft Street.

"The explosion was loud, really loud," Pagnotta said.

According to Goodwill, an employee had bought a Nissan Sentra on Friday. But when she pulled up on Monday to park, instead of hitting the brake, she hit the gas.

"I feel sorry for her," said Emily Middleton. "I hope she didn't get hurt."

Thankfully she wasn't hurt, but her new car is badly damaged – the front end and fenders especially. A chunk of concrete from the wall is still sitting on the hood.

"I don't know how people get the gas and brake confused," said Pagnotta. "She must be terrified."

The store closed for a few hours while plywood was put up.

Police have not cited the woman, and it's unclear if they will.
