HIALEAH (CBSMiami) – The alleged driver that left one person dead in a fatal hit and run in Hialeah has been identified.

According to Hialeah Police, Ernesto Izquierdo Gonzalez was in a white Nissan Sentra when he ran a stop sign – located near W 2nd Avenue and 20th Street – hitting an SUV carrying six people.

Gonzalez, 25, fled the scene, but witnesses gave police a description. Police caught up to him not far from the scene of the crash.

Gonzalez then allegedly resisted arrest, forcing a Hialeah officer to shock him with a Taser.

A 66-year-old woman was ejected from the SUV, which then landed on her.  She has been identified as Amelia Caridad Diaz.

"It was a very violent accident," said Hialeah Police Department Det. Carl Zogby.  "The victim was ejected from the vehicle, ended up under the vehicle. Neighbors, officers who arrived on the scene all helped to straighten out the vehicle."

Neighbors lifted the car off of Diaz, but it was too late. The other five passengers suffered minor injuries and were not taken to the hospital.

Gonzalez is being charged with leaving the scene of a crash, resisting an officer without violence to his person and battery.
