Driver Charged In Fatal Hit And Run Involving Irish Tourist

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami/AP) — Broward Sheriff's Office has released the name of the Irish tourist that was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday.

Broward Sheriff's officials said 36-year-old Martin James O'Connor was crossing the street before dawn Saturday and was fatally hit a by BMW that fled the scene.

A friend of driver Richard Jennings saw the damaged BMW and called authorities. After several hours of investigating, authorities found Jennings and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Authorities said O'Connor was leaving a bar with two friends and heading back to their hotel when he crossed the street and was hit.
