8-year-old girl injured after drive-by shooting in Lauderhill

A child is recovering after a drive-by shooting in Lauderhill last night.

Lauderhill police said the shooting happened around 7:48 p.m. in the area of 3551 NW 8th Court. 

When officers arrived at the scene, there was an 8-year-old girl with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said she is recovering from her injuries.

According to Lauderhill police, the girl and her family were inside their home when a "projectile" entered through a window, striking the girl.

Neighbors told CBS Miami they heard a pop, then family members ran out of the house saying, "My daughter is shot."

One neighbor said she was shocked that the shooting happened and that the neighborhood is family-friendly.

"It's scary for someone to drive by and do that," the neighbor said.

Police didn't release information about a possible vehicle description.

The shooting is under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lauderhill Police Department or Broward Crime Stoppers.
