FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Dozens of passengers found themselves stranded at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday night after missing their connecting flights.

The travelers had flown in from Colombia on a Spirit Airlines flight.

The passengers said their layover was scheduled to be a little over an hour, but the airline didn't release their luggage from until just a few minutes before take off, causing them to miss their connection.

The airline told passengers there was nothing it could do other than book them on new flights, some that don't take off for several days, passenger Edwin Baracaldo said.

Baracaldo was trying to get back to New York Friday night, but now has to wait until Saturday night or Sunday.

He said the airline was not providing lodging or food accommodations for the stranded passengers.

Calls and emails to Spirit Airlines media representatives were not immediately returned.
