Doral City Manager Expects To Be Fired Monday

DORAL (CBSMiami) -- Doral city manager Joe Carollo believes his days are numbered.

At  a Tuesday afternoon news conference, Carrolo told reporters Vice Mayor Christi Fraga called a special meeting for Monday evening to discuss administrative evaluations.

"What I do know is this… that the administrative evaluations seem to be aimed at one person. I'm the Thanksgiving turkey," said Carollo.

Before calling the special meeting Carollo said the vice mayor approached someone else about his job.

"She had called an individual that had just retired from Miami-Dade County as a top administrator of one of the departments there to inquire if he wanted to be the city manager of Doral," said Carollo.

This isn't the first time Carollo's job has been on the line, nor is it the first time accusations have flown among Doral city officials.

Back in October, Mayor Luigi Boria tried to oust the city manager, but the motion failed and council voted 3-2 not to fire Carollo. Now, Carollo alleges a relative of Fraga tried to offer the mayor money in exchange for the councilwoman's vote.

"He was offered the vote of then-councilwoman Christi Fraga to be his third vote in being able to fire me as manager in exchange for a sum of money," said Carollo.

Carollo says the mayor alerted the State Attorney's Office about the alleged offer.

The mayor did not return calls for comment.

When CBS4's Maggie Newland reached Vice Mayor Christi Fraga by phone, she had no comment except to say Carollo's assumptions about Monday night's meeting are "strictly speculative."

She told Newland she will hold a news conference to respond to Carollo's allegations Monday after the special meeting.

Carollo, said he has little doubt about what will happen during Monday's meeting.

"I fully intend to see three members of this council rush like there was no tomorrow to fire me for any excuse on Monday evening," said Carollo.
