Dolphins vs. Patriots Preview: The Playoff Implications

By WQAM Staff

The 7-6 Miami Dolphins are on the ropes after absorbing a fierce uppercut to the jaw courtesy of the Baltimore Ravens last weekend. Yet their playoff hopes remain alive, and this Sunday's road matchup against the New England Patriots provides one last opportunity to reignite the flame.

According to ESPN's FiveThirtyEight, Miami's playoff odds currently stand at 15.5 percent heading into Week 14. The impact of this upcoming game is monstrous, however, with their postseason odds surging to 52 percent with an upset win. With a loss, Miami's season flatlines with just a three-percent chance, needing miracles on top of miracles.

Win and it's a coin flip. Or lose and it's another year of disappointment. On the other side, New England is already essentially a lock, with 99.8-percent odds of a postseason berth. Still you'd think they'll come out firing after getting humiliated by the Dolphins back in Week 1 in Miami.

For the road team, this weekend emits a playoff feel. It's up to the Dolphins to pick themselves up and deliver a counter to keep their postseason aspirations alive.
