DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The NFL has fined Miami Dolphins defensive end Olivier Vernon for his low hit on Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota during their game on Sunday.

Vernon confirmed on Wednesday that he was fined and that he plans to appeal but he declined to say how much the fine was for.

Following the play in which Mariota received medical attention but remained in the game, Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt was critical of Vernon, saying it appeared that he was trying to injure the quarterback.

After the game it was revealed that Mariota sprained the MCL in his left knee, though he didn't miss a single play during the game.  He did finish the game wearing a brace on his knee though.

Mariota said that he didn't feel the hit was dirty and got an apology from Vernon, who was flagged for roughing the passer on the play.
