DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) – The dogs rescued from a burning Dania Beach home are in much better shape after baths, relaxation and some TLC, but what they really need now is loving place to stay.

One of the dogs in need of some love is 14-year-old Amos, a Cocker Spaniel.

"At this point in time, Amos has been through a lot in his life and all Amos needs is love and a comfy bed to lay his head on," said Donna Fedor of Bow Wow Resorts.

Most of these dogs have heartbreaking back stories.

Shelly, a small terrier, was nearly starved to death before she was rescued.

The same goes for Fidelito, another Cocker Spaniel whose name gives a hint to his story.

"He came over on a raft from Cuba and when he got here the owners dumped him at Miami-Dade," said Heather Abronski, an avid dog lover.

He was waiting for a home when the fire hit.

"He's old. He has cancer, we just found out, but he's sweet. Last week, he was touch and go, but now he's just walking around and everything. He just needs a really quiet home," Abronski said.

Max is another older dog in rough shape. He's missing one eye and is nearly blind in the other.

These are just a few of the more than two dozen dogs first rescued from abuse or neglect, then rescued from a fire.

Now, they're ready for their luck to change.

"For me it's just amazing. As humans we'd have a break down after all that. Yet they're still loving, just want their own home," Abronski said.

Right now, as it stands, there are still about 20 dogs that need to be adopted or could use a foster home.

If you're interested in dogs like Fidelito – a dog that has some kind of medical issues – it might be a good idea to consider fostering because all the medical expenses are taken care of. Pretty much all you would have to provide is food, love and a place to stay.
