NORTH LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Three people have been arrested in connection to an armed robbery that led to a chase through the streets of Broward County Tuesday afternoon, deputies said.

It started at around 1 p.m. when robbers knocked over a Cash America Store in Lauderdale Lakes.

With deputies hot on their trail, the thieves lost control. Cellphone video captured the crashing end to the BSO pursuit. The suspects' white SUV slammed into a van and several other cars at a stop light at an intersection on Rock Island Drive and McNab Road.

Seconds later, video showed deputies with their guns drawn as smoke comes from the engine of the SUV.

"It's really serious. It's like, it's not just a one car fender bender. People are on the sidewalk, on the railing facing the other way. You just pray, pray that hopefully they're okay," said Amber Joseph who lives nearby.

Chopper4 was over the scene where more than a dozen Broward Sheriff's deputies could be seen along with fire trucks.

Several people were taken to the hospital. One woman was seen being taken by rescue crews on a stretcher. A woman who did not want to be identified, said their friend was in one of the cars that was hit. They're hoping he's okay.

"I'm trying to hold it together. I'm scared because not knowing is worse, you don't know," said the woman.

Deputies arrested two men on the scene. The third subject had sprinted away into the Hampton's Community near Silver Lakes Middle School.

All afternoon, owners and renters couldn't get into their homes

"Now they are not letting anybody go into the Hampton's," said "Valencia." "The SWAT car went inside."

BSO's SWAT team responded to an apartment complex in the 1300 block of Hampton Blvd. and took the third man into custody.

Authorities have not released the identities of the three men.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information, contact Broward Crime Stoppers (954) 493-TIPS.
