Delray Beach Man Guilty Of Animal Cruelty

DELRAY BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) — A Delray Beach man who left a pit bull outdoors to die after starving it has been found guilty of animal cruelty.

A Palm Beach County jury convicted 38-year-old Anthony T. Herring on Wednesday.

Prosecutor Dave Aronberg says Herring starved his dog, Bella, for weeks and then left her outside. In June 2014, animal county control officers rescued Bella, who they say weighed 23 pounds and couldn't stand or walk.

Herring says Bella had stopped eating because of hookworms.

During the trial, Dr. Stephanie Poole said that the dog's emaciated condition had resulted from a lack of food, not the hookworms.

A judge says Herring will be sentenced next month.

Bella, who survived, is now in a loving home.
