MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Someone shot up a marked Miami-Dade police cruiser overnight.

Officers checking out a 'shots fired' call around 1:40 a.m. found that a department decoy vehicle, parked at Gulfstream Road and Marlin Road in Cutler Bay, had several bullet holes in it including five in the driver's side rear window.

Police say the car was parked in the neighborhood as a crime deterrent.

One of the bullets actually went through a window and lodged in a home at 19711 Gulfstream Road.

Tasha Johnson said at first she didn't realize it was gunfire.

"I thought it was somebody banging on the door," said Johnson.

She added that it wasn't until police came into her home and found a bullet in her brother's bedroom did she realized what was going on.

"I just thank God my brother wasn't home," said Johnson. "If he was standing up at that time of the morning he would have got hurt, he would have got hit in the head probably."

A witness told investigators he saw a male riding away from the area on a bicycle around the time of the shooting.

"That's very sad, I mean they work, they put they life on the line for us, even if the car is empty, I guess it's a message but hey I don't know," another neighbor "Abel."

Last month, another officer's car which was parked in front of his home in nearby Perrine was also shot up. Police have not said if the shootings are connected.
