Deadly shooting in northwest Miami-Dade

Man killed in northwest Miami-Dade shooting

MIAMI - An investigation is underway after a deadly shooting in a northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.

According to police, just after 3:45 a.m. they received a ShotSpotter alert for the area of NW 72nd Street and 13th Avenue, near Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

Arriving officers found the body of a man who had been shot.

A friend of the victim identified him as Maurice Reese Bellamy. He said Bellamy on his way home from a concert and stopped by the Hialeah neighborhood to check on his grandmother. He said Bellamy, who does not live in the neighborhood, was not the type to cause trouble.

Bellamy was a Miami-Dade County Public Schools employee and worked at Lorah Park Elementary, according to the school district. Crisis counselors were sent to school Friday morning.

Investigators are now trying to determine what led to the shooting.
