2 dead, 1 wounded in North Miami Beach shooting

MIAMI - Police swarmed a North Miami Beach neighborhood after an overnight shooting.

According to police, two people were found dead inside a home at NE 170th Street and NE 16th Avenue.

CBS News Miami is learning new details about one of the two people who lost their lives.

A family member told CBS News MIami's Peter D'Oench that 27-year-old Daveanand Thomas had died.

Photos of him on social media show him in a Miami Heat jersey and show his high school graduation picture. His Facebook profile includes a photo revealing that he was an Assistant Manager in Customer Service at Publix.

The family member said, "He was one of the best. He was so good. I don't know. What can I say? We are in shock. We did not expect this. My family is in shock too."

She said she was not told what had happened at home.

Thomas's aunt and uncle said they too were stunned.

"He's a good kid, don't bother nobody, don't fight nobody," said his uncle, whose first name is Paul. He said, "He was a good boy. I don't understand this."

The victim's aunt, who said her first name was Edelia, told CBS News Miami, "This has been a great surprise for me. My nephew, he is a child to me. I saw him growing up. I don't know. I don't understand. I can't believe this. I can not believe that this happened."

A third person who had been shot was taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in critical condition.

"I just walked out as if I was going to work like a normal day and saw this happen. They told me what happened and I was like somebody had been shot and passed, this never happens here, never," said Faith Davis who lives in the neighborhood.

Police could be seen interviewing two men behind the crime tape that cordoned off an area. Another image from Chopper 4 shows an investigator taking photos of the back of one man's shoes. It is not known if he was a witness or was inside the home where the shooting took place.

Police have not said what led to the shooting. They did not say if they were looking for a shooter.
