Police ID Driver Killed In Deadly Crash On Davie Boulevard Ramp To I-95

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - One person was killed, two others injured in a crash on Davie Boulevard at I-95.

The multi-vehicle crash happened on the overpass just before 4:30 a.m.

One person died on the scene. The two others were taken to Broward Health Medical Center. One of those transported had life-threatening injuries, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Steve Gollan.

The person who died was identified by police as 22-year-old Anthony Torres-Loughan. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

A neighbor tells CBS4 Torres was a family man who was a good dad and took care of his grandmother.

"This man was dedicated. He picks up his daughter on the weekend. Her name is Mia. He's the best father ever," said the neighbor

Investigators believe the driver of an SUV came off I-95 going south at a high rate of speed, went through the intersection at Davie Boulevard and it a car that it came to rest on top of, according to Fort Lauderdale police spokesperson Casey Liening.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue had to cut the seriously injured person out of the SUV. The driver was the one with the most serious injuries, according to Gollan.

Both the east and westbound lanes of Davie Boulevard at I-95 were closed during the busy morning commute as were the on-ramp from Davie Boulevard to southbound I-95 and the off-ramp from southbound I-95 to Davie Boulevard. They have since re-opened.

"It took me an hour to get my son to school and normally it's a five-minute drive," said one driver.

The accident is being investigated by the Fort Lauderdale police department DUI Task Force and Traffic Homicide unit.
