Deadly Miami Beach Hit And Run Crash, Driver Charged

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A man was killed in an overnight hit and run crash on South Beach.

It happened just after 3 a.m. at 15th Street and Alton Road. The man died on the scene.

Armed with a witness description, Miami Beach police located the suspected driver about half an hour later at 59th Street and Collins Avenue. Police say the car's front windshield was smashed, it had obvious signs of damaged. The driver was identified as 37-year-old Volodymyr Shyshko.

"We want to piece together that investigation, tie that driver to the scene using forensics and DNA and then make those appropriate charges," Miami Beach police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez.

Shyshko was arrested and charged with DUI, vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident involving a fatality, and possession of marijuana.

A passenger in the car was also detained but police said he would unlikely face any charges.

The fatal crash happened in nearly the location where another pedestrian was struck and killed in February. In that case, the driver stayed on the scene.
